The first Vancouver City Council after the 1886 fire. Improvised City Hall (tent) on C.P.R. pier at foot of Main - City Council at meeting after the fires. The names of council members are as follows: standing (L. to R.): Alderman J. Griffiths, Alderman R. Balfour, Alderman Thos. Dunn, City Solicitor J.J. Blake, Alderman Jos. Humphreys, City Treasurer G.F. Baldwin, City Corner Dr. W.J. McGuigan; Seated (L. to R.): Alderman C.A. Coldwell, Alderman E.P. Hamilton, Alderman J. Northcott, Mayor M.A. McLean, Alderman L.A. Hamilton, Alderman Peter Cordiner, City Clerk T.F. McGuigan; Vacant seat: Alderman Harry Hemlow in Seattle on business; Man standing in background. George W. Gibson, Founder of Gibson's Landing, Howe Sound.
