How To BeginAndroid development market was relatively new in June 2009, when I decided to try my hands on it. To get myself familiarized with Android, I bought a book on Android development had all the required details about Android. At that time, Google was trying to promote Android by holding a competition for the developers.I thought that by giving an entry to this Android Developer's competition, I could be able to learn more concepts in Android. So, I started making an app called the Car-Locator and this app ended up winning the third prize in the Travel Category of the Android development Contest.

Soon, more and more people started downloading this app including some press people. Slowly the Car Locator app began to earn good revenue and the sales started to pick up.Then I entered into another contest with the same Car Locator app and this time I did a little better than the earlier one and got the first prize and took home a neat $70,000 cash prize. In addition to the booty, this app featured in leading IT magazines such as wired and Tech Crunch and also in a Verizon commercial.

Encouraged by the response, I started developing 5 more apps on Android. All the apps have been doing pretty well and I make around 70% of Google's revenue ($160,000 a year) by allowing the users to download these apps.Car Locator is an app that helps the car owner to trace the car in the parking lot.Copy paste is another app that I had developed and this app lets the users to perform copy and paste operations while using their mobile phones.

Screenshot app allows the user to take screen shots and put in the mobile screen.Audio photos app allows the user to take pictures along with the audio. This is an interesting concept, which allows the user record some sound along with the picture and share with others.Smarter alarm app wakes up the user by providing sports and weather related news instead of the traditional buzzing alarms. The story behind this successMost of these apps were developed to meet my own requirements.

I always had difficulty in locating my car in a parking lot. So I decided to create an app in android, which already had the GPS and the compass features built in to it.Similarly, I was finding it extremely difficult to copy paste using my Android phones, which gave rise to the copy paste app.Screen shot was another feature that was not available in Android phone and I wrote an app to bridge the gap.One of the main reasons or the popularity of the apps that I had developed is that the necessity of the people around me matches my necessity and hence the apps become extremely popular.

Friendship circles also play a big part in coming out with new ideas. With respect to the revenue share that I get from the app, I get 30% revenue each from the Car Locator and screen shot and 40% revenue from the remaining three apps.
